The ATM initiative is a collaboration between the Bhusawal division of the Railways and Bank of Maharashtra, under the Innovative and Non-Fare Revenue Ideas Scheme (INFRIS). While the trial was done on an AC coach, Railways plans to extend it to all the coaches of the train through vestibules in the future.

If the ATM service becomes popular, it may be extended to other major trains as well. As for security, the officials have planned to monitor the ATM kiosks by round-the-clock CCTV.

Benefits of ATM Kiosks On Train:

Passengers who could not withdraw money due to various reasons will now be able to withdraw cash on a moving train. Apart from withdrawing money, people can also order chequebooks and receive statements.

“This is a good initiative by Railways. People can withdraw money anytime they want on the train. It will be very helpful,” TOI quoted a passenger.

Withdrawal Limits:

While the trial run has been successful, the officials are yet to issue any statement regarding the withdrawal limits. Like normal ATMs, these train ATMs will also have the same withdrawal limits, it is expected.

However, an official confirmation in this regard is awaited.

Point of Sale Machines:

Currently, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has introduced point of sale (POS) machines in selected trains to promote cashless transactions and prevent overcharging of meals. This allows passengers to pay for their meals using debit or credit cards, enhancing transparency and convenience during their journey.
