Aimed at welfare of the Armed Forces personnel, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday approved a proposal to dispense with the need to furnish No Accommodation Certificate (NAC) to become eligible for House Rent Allowance (HRA).
This will be applicable for the personnel who have not been allotted government accommodation. From now on they will be able to draw HRA without the requirement to produce NAC.
Under the existing policy, personnel had to apply separately for issuing of NAC from the concerned accommodation offices, which resulted in delays in processing the claims for HRA. Subsequently the allowance was paid to personnel after considerable time. This, at times, was causing financial hardship to the personnel.
The revised policy is a significant step in line with Government’s policy for simplification of the existing procedures. The revised policy will result in reduction in paper work and enable faster disbursement of the HRA to the Armed Forces personnel.
In another development, the Defence Minister will visit the United States of America between April 11-14, 2022. The Raksha Mantri along with External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar will participate in the 4th India-USA 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue in Washington DC.
