All about Operation Sindoor as shared by Col Sofiya Queshi and Wing Cdr Vyomika Singh

In a significant development, India launched 'Operation Sindoor' in response to the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, which resulted in the deaths of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen.

The operation targeted nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), aiming to dismantle the infrastructure supporting cross-border terrorism.

On May 7, 2025, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, alongside Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, addressed the media to provide insights into Operation Sindoor.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri's Statements:

The Pahalgam attack was executed by terrorists affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and its proxy, The Resistance Front (TRF).

The attackers aimed to disrupt the resurgence of tourism in Jammu and Kashmir by instilling fear through targeted killings.

Intelligence indicated plans for further attacks, necessitating a preemptive and measured response.

Despite international condemnation, Pakistan failed to take action against the perpetrators, prompting India to act decisively.

Colonel Sofiya Qureshi's Briefing:

Colonel Qureshi revealed that Operation Sindoor was executed between 1:05 AM and 1:30 AM, targeting nine terrorist camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). These sites were linked to groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), and Hizbul Mujahideen.

The operation aimed to dismantle terror infrastructure without causing civilian casualties, reflecting India's measured and non-escalatory approach.

Among the significant targets was the Gulpur camp in Kotli, a known LeT base active in the Rajouri-Poonch region. Colonel Qureshi presented videos confirming successful strikes on this and other camps, including those in Muridke and Sialkot, areas historically associated with terrorist training activities.

Wing Commander Singh emphasised that the operation was a direct response to credible intelligence indicating imminent threats of further attacks on Indian soil. She highlighted that the selected targets were chosen to avoid civilian areas, ensuring minimal collateral damage. 

She stated that:

- The Indian Air Force executed the strikes using precision-guided munitions, ensuring minimal collateral damage.

- The operation demonstrated India's capability to conduct strategic strikes while maintaining regional stability.

- Operation Sindoor stands as a testament to India's commitment to counter-terrorism and the evolving role of women in its armed forces.

Notably, the detailed briefing by Colonel Qureshi and Wing Commander Singh was a historic and symbolic address that not only provided clarity on the operation's objectives and outcomes but also highlighted the strategic and inclusive approach of India's defence establishment.

Meanwhile, reports have stated that the Indian surgical strikes have eliminated more than 80 terrorists settled inside those nine sites.
