In a shocking incident, a youth in Cuttack was beaten up, tied to a motorcycle and dragged for 2 kilometres on the busy streets of the Silver city for not being able to pay a paltry Rs1,500 that he had borrowed from the accused.
In the video, which has gone viral on social media, the youth’s hands can be seen tied to a bike while four to five youths riding two bikes can be seen dragging him on the road.
The disturbing video has sent shockwaves across the Silver City, known for harmony and brotherhood. The accused also beat up and threatened people with sharp-edged weapons, who tried to save the youth.
Ironically, two of the accused are the friends of the victim. The victim has been identified as Jagannath Behera of Cuttack’s Bidanasi. The matter came to the fore after the video of the incident went viral on social media.
According to sources, Jagannath had borrowed Rs 1,500 from one of the accused. However, he failed to return it on time. Enraged, the accused along with his friends beat him up.
Later, they tied him to a bike and dragged him on the busy street of Cuttack. The incident has spread outrage in the area as locals demanded immediate arrest of the accused.
Meanwhile, swinging into action, police arrested two persons from Sutahat area of Cuttack.
speaking on the inhumane act, the victim Jagannath Behera said, "Sir, I had borrowed Rs 1500 from him. I had taken Rs 1500 during my grandparent’s death. It’s one month and I could not return. They tied me from Kanika square and dragged me till Sutahat market.”
Denizens have raised questions over Commissionerate Police’s efficiency as the route along which the youth was dragged has three traffic outposts. However, surprisingly the miscreants were not intercepted by police.
Meanwhile, Cuttack DCP Pinak Mishra said, "As per investigation, both are known to each other. They are acquaintances. We are verifying it. If they might have crossed any traffic post, and the traffic police did not take the matter seriously then we will take stringent step in this regard.
