Tension erupted at Dhinkia Panchayat near Paradip in Jagatsinghpur district on Saturday when a posse of police personnel tried to enter the village. Several women and children protested the march of the police force at the entry points of the village.
As per reports, two-platoon of police force arrived at the village on Saturday. Suspecting forced entry by the cops, resentment brewed among the villagers. While the police force was on one side of the barricades put at the entry points of the village, women and children stood on the other side staging protest against the administration.
Earlier today, the district administration started demolishing betel vines in Mahala.
It is pertinent to mention here that earlier the Police had reportedly picked up the uncle and sister of Debendra Swain, a former member of the group which is leading protests against the proposed JSW project. Apart from that, the force had allegedly roughed up several other villagers and ransacked the properties of several persons in the village.
Following the incident, the villagers had erected temporary barricades at the entry points to Dhinkia village and have put locks to prevent the entry of administration officials and police force. The village entry points have been guarded round the clock by the residents.
