A woman was charred to death while her 18-month-old infant boy sustained critical injuries in a fire mishap reported from Tentoi village under Naugaon block in Jagatsinghpur district on Thursday.
The infant has been shifted to the burn unit of Sri Ram Chandra Bhanja Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for treatment.
The woman, identified as Lipi Sethy, was married to one Tapan Sethy from Tentoi village three years ago. The couple had an 18-months old baby boy.
Neighbours said Lipi had domestic disputes with her in-laws since the past few months. Though the exact reason of the fire is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that Lipi set herself ablaze after pouring kerosene on her body.
She suffered 90% burn injuries in the fire mishap. The locals rushed her to the Nuagaon hospital where the doctors pronounced her dead.
The body has been sent for post mortem and a forensic team has reached the spot to carry out investigation. The police said that they would comment on this case only after a thorough investigation is carried out.
