In a unique protest, a woman, working as a peon in a government school in Sundargarh district, fell at the district Collector's feet on Thursday seeking regularisation of her job for which she has been fighting since long.

A bizarre scene unfolded when Piro Kishan threw herself at the feet of Collector Nikhil Pawan Kalyan when the latter walked towards his chamber. The sudden turn of events took everyone, including the Collector, by surprise. Needless to say the top district revenue official was left spellbound and embarrassed before he could react.

Gathering composure, the Collector asked her to stand up and gave her a patient hearing. Not only that, he received her application, assuring her that her plea would be taken up seriously and justice would be delivered.

Piro is a resident of Majhapada village under Sadar block in the district.

Later, speaking to reporters, Piro said she worked at Majhapada Girls' UP School as a peon on a contractual basis. She was told that her job would be regularised once the school became eligible to receive grant-in-aid. But that did not happen.

Piro said, "For the regularisation of my job, I had given Rs 15,000 to the school authorities. I did rounds of the district education office and the Collector's office. I even staged a 'dharna' at the Collector's office, but nothing worked. The DEO even tore my application into pieces," she added.

"With no option left, today I slept at the feet of the Collector and it worked. The hope of getting justice has been rekindled as the Collector himself assured me of it," she further added.
