A group of forest officials and fire service personnel on Wednesday successfully rescued a leopard that fell into a well at Rairakhol in Sambalpur district. The dramatic and tense rescue operation by the officials using an effective technique was a feat in itself and a treat to watch.

The video of the scene has gone viral over various social media platforms. The video shows the officials holding both sides of a rope across the well. A piece of wood has been fastened on both the ropes right in the middle and the leopard can be seen sitting right on top of it.

After the leopard became stable by sitting on the piece of wood hanged by the ropes inside the well, the forest officials kept a piece of wooden ladder for the wild animal to climb up from the well. Once it reached the edge of the well, the men were seen walking away to allow the leopard to climb up rest of the way.

The forest officials had also netted all the sides and only left one way for the leopard’s passage into the forest to keep the people of the locality safe.

“Our planning really worked well and the wild animal was rescued successfully from the well without attacking anybody,” said a forest official.

“The leopard also supported its rescue as well, since several times, the animal attacks its rescuers. But, luckily nothing of such incident happened in this operation,” he added.

Notably, some villagers had spotted the tiger fallen into the well and informed the forest officials for its rescue.
