A 3-year-old child was killed in wasp attack at a village in Narayanpatna in Koraput district on Monday.
As per reports, two children of Itika village were playing inside a hut when a swarm of wasps attacked the duo. Their mother Male Pidika soon flew to the spot after hearing the babies wail and also came under the attack of the wasp.
All of them were immediately shifted to hospital after locals rescued the trio from the spot after much labour. However, one of the children named Babula succumbed to the injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
The health condition of the two others is stated to be stable.
On the other hand, two people had to suffer grave consequences of paying their lives for relying on superstitious practices to treat snake bites in Odisha.
According to sources, a resident of Luhurasahi in Gurundia area of Sundargarh was bitten by a poisonous snake reportedly a Krait on Monday.
His family members however took him to a quack for treatment instead of transferring him to hospital.
The man died almost 12 hours after the incident as his family continued to run from pillar to post seeking black magic to heal him.
In a similar incident, the headmistress of Tamada UP School in Chandiposh, Mamata Patra was also bitten by a poisonous snake. However, her near ones also sought help of sorcery for the treatment.
When her health condition did not show any signs of improvement, they decided to shift her to hospital. But unfortunately, she succumbed to the poison while being taken away to medical.
While the blind practice of following superstition is said to have claimed the two precious lives, families of both the deceased could not be available for any comments in this regard.
