Unseasonal rains which lashed in the last two days have adversely affected the standing paddy crops in several parts of Odisha. The famers in most parts of Semulia block in Balasore district are worried a lot as earlier bulk of the standing crops were damaged by 'Chakada’ worms, also known as Brown Plant Hoppers.
The recent rains have compounded the miseries of the farmers as they are no staring at an uncertain future. Besides, many are worried as bulk of the farmers had taken loans for agricultural purposes.
“We do not know what to do next as no official have visited the spot,” said a farmer.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday informed that the overall weather conditions will improve in Odisha with gradual drop in the intensity in the rainfall activity from today. The weather will remain dry with overcast conditions in several parts of the State.
Apart from this, there will be no major change in the minimum (night) temperature across the State.
On Saturday, a Low Pressure area had formed over south Andaman Sea and adjoining Thailand coast under the influence of the cyclonic circulation.
The system is likely to move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a Depression over north Andaman Sea and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal by November 15. It is likely to continue to move west–northwestwards, intensify further and reach near Andhra Pradesh coast around November 18, 2021, said IMD.
