Despite Odisha government's tall claims about advanced health care system and better road connectivity in interior pockets of the State, a critically ill patient reportedly died as ambulance could not reach him due to unavailability of motorable road. The incident has been reported from Badabil village under Nakatideula block in Sambalpur district.
The deceased has been identified as Biranchi Dehuri.
According to sources, Dehuri's family immediately called 108 Ambulance service after he fainted while working at his agricultural land.
The ambulance could not reach his village due to unavailability of road. Finding no other option, Dehuri was carried on a cot for five kilometres and brought near the ambulance, source added.
Dehuri was rushed to Rairakhole hospital where the doctor declared him dead.
"We had to carry him on cot as ambulance could not reach our village. His live could have been saved if our village has road connectivity," said Sukanti Dehuri, deceased's wife.
Commenting on the matter, the Nakatideula Block Development Officer (BDO) Bibekananda Sahu said necessary steps will be taken to address the issue.
