The ongoing marital dispute between Tapaswini Dash and her doctor husband Sumit Sahu is showing no sign of resolution despite judicial intervention and instead getting murkier with each passing days.
The police administration on Tuesday promulgated prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC in Brahma Nagar, the locality where Tapaswini has been protesting for her rights to be accepted as the legal wife of Sumit.
The police said the restrictions have been imposed to avoid crowding in the area and it will remain in force for an indefinite period. In addition to the prohibitory order, two-section of police forces have been deployed in front of Sumit’s house to avoid any law and order situation.
The police have installed barricades to prevent the entry of more people into the area and asked locals not to assemble in large numbers.
The police move came after hundreds of women forcibly tried to enter the house of Sumit last evening. A scuffle had ensued in front of the dharna site before the women supporters broke into the main gate of the house. However, they could only enter up to the verandah and not the house.
Following the event, Tapaswinin moved her make-shift tent from outside of Sumit's house to the verandah inside the premises.
Tapaswini, who claimed that she married Sumit in a court on September 7, 2020, has been staging dharna after the latter did not turn up for an institutional marriage.
Recently, a court had ordered the couple to live in rented accommodation, the cost of which is to be borne by Sumit, in a bid to end the animosity. However, Sumit allegedly disappeared and later claimed that his absence from the house was on account of sickness. On Sunday, Sumit’s family accused Tapaswini of demanding Rs 8 lakh which was later rubbished by the latter claiming that the old video had no relation with the present standoff.
