Cuttack/Puri: Expressing dissatisfaction over the results which were recently announced by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE), hundreds of matric students and their guardians gheraoed teachers and held protest at their respective schools in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Puri and other parts of the State.
Alleging faulty evaluation, students and parents created uproar at the Saraswati Shisumandir at College square in Cuttack.
While seeking school authorities’ intervention, the students alleged that marks awarded to them by the BSE were faulty.
According to reports, as many as 161 students had appeared the assessment test this year. Over 100 students alleged that they scored much less mark than what they had expected. They demanded re-evaluation of their papers by the board authorities.

“We are not satisfied with the marks awarded by the board. The marking was done in a faulty manner and evaluation by school teachers was not taken into account by the board authorities during final evaluation. My son had scored 95 per cent marks in school tests, but now he got only 60 per cent in the final board exams,” a guardian alleged.
A girl said that she had secured more than 70 per cent marks in the previous examination conducted by the school. “I had secured 70 per cent marks in my previous examinations at school. But the marks awarded by the board is around 60 per cent. How is it possible? she asked.
On the other hand, the headmaster of the school tried to pass the buck on the board authorities for the alleged fault.
Meanwhile, a meeting between the board officials and teachers of the concerned school has been convened to discuss the issues.
Similar scenes were witnessed at another Saraswati Sishu Mandir at Madhuban in Puri where hundreds of students gheraoed the school.
“Marks of several other students belonging to other government schools have been increased. But, we have been awarded less marks. We demand the School and Mass Education Minister take appropriate measures to raise our marks,” an agitating girl said.
“We had self evaluated on our previous tests conducted by the schools. The marks evaluated by us were much more than the recent score. We had also followed the board protocols during self evaluation. We want A-1 grade,” another student demanded.
“If the results are announced on the basis of the marks obtained in half-yearly and Class-XI examinations, then why the board reduced the marks awarded by the school teachers in the previous tests,” asked a guardian.
As the agitation got intensified, the Puri Collector has directed the District Education Officer (DEO) to review the evaluation process.
In another incident, students of Brahmeswar government high school in Bhubaneswar staged a road block in front of the school over similar demands.
Students at Sri Aurovind School in Salipur also levelled similar allegation against the BSE.
Meanwhile hundreds of guardians rushed to the BSE headquarters in Cuttack, demanding re-valuation. They also blocked the road in front of the Board office at Bajrakabati road in Cuttack, causing major traffic inconvenience for quite sometimes.
