Learning was paralysed for a day in a High School at Guchaguda village of Nabarangpur district on Friday after students and parents staged protest outside the school gate demanding the immediate withdrawal of the transfer order of the Headmaster.
Waving placards that read ‘Return Our Headmaster’, the students raised slogans against the administration for the decision to transfer their dear teacher.
Bimala Gond, a student said Headmaster Vijay Kumar Maharana, apart from being a nice human being, contributed immensely towards raising the standard of education in the school. “Sir loves students as his own children. We will not allow the school to function till the order is revoked,” she said.
“We shut the school from yesterday. The school is already facing a severe shortage of teachers. We thought the vacancies will be filled soon. On the contrary, the transfer order of the Headmaster came as a shocker,” said an agitated local.
“We will stage protest until our demand (to cancel the transfer) is fulfilled,” he added.
Rahul Gond, another student, said that the Headmaster encouraged students to pursue study earnestly and give their best. “He also ensured that we don’t let our studies hamper irrespective of the circumstances,” he said.
“We want he should not be transferred,” another student added.
Meanwhile, Ishwar Majhi, Block Education Officer, said, “I have forwarded the memorandum to the District Education Officer informing him about the situation. I also requested villagers to allow the school to function as the physical classes were reopened after two years due to Covid restrictions.”
However, the parents and students appeared to be in no mood to let up. They said they have no plans to leave the place at least for a week until the Headmaster’s transfer order was revoked.
