A minor student suffered injuries after he was allegedly thrashed by a teacher at a private coaching centre in Bhubaneswar, on Tuesday.

As per reports, the teacher brutally beat up one of his students, identified as Rihan Sheikh of Jadupur area, for not doing his homework. The boy has suffered injuries in his hand.

The student informed about the incident to his parents after returning home from his classes, following which the parents went to the coaching centre to inquire about the incident. However, the teacher even attacked them, alleged the parents.

"The teacher asked me if I had done my homework. I said I had done the tasks but left few as I couldn't understand those. He then got annoyed and hit me with a stick," the boy said.

Following the incident, the family members filed an FIR at Khandagiri Police Station against the teacher.

Meanwhile, the teacher has refuted the allegations made by the student and his parents.

"Rehan is taking tuitions from me since the past 4 years. I beat him with a stick along with 4 other students. But, I had no intentions of injuring him or anyone else. The stick accidentally broke and caused bruises on his hand," said the teacher, identified as Qasim.

Further, the teacher clarified, "As alleged by them (parents of the student), I didn't beat him forcefully or intentionally. I have video proof regarding the same. It was certainly a mistake for which I have already apologised to the same."

The police have launched a probe into the incident.
