In a shocking incident, a pack of stray dogs was found feeding on the body parts of a newborn baby in front of the Balasore district headquarters hospital (DHH), on Friday.
The residents of Balasore town on Friday morning woke up to the heart wrenching scene of the body parts of a newborn baby strewn on the road right in front of the Balasore DHH and being devoured by stray dogs. The disturbing scene left the visitors to the DHH and passersby shaken.
Sources said it is believed that the newborn's abandoned body could have been washed away from somewhere in the unseasonal rains that occurred in the district today. However, everyone was clueless about the origin.
When asked, Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) of Balasore DHH, Dr Dulalsen Jagadev said he won't be able to say anything about the incident since he learnt about it from the hospital manager. “I have not visited the spot as yet. I could say anything about the incident only after an investigation is carried out,” Jagadev added.
However, such incidents are not new to the State, pointing at the callous handling of stillborn babies.
Notably, a newborn baby girl was found stuffed inside a drainage pipe of a toilet on the fourth floor of the Mother and Child Care building of the Puri district headquarters hospital (DHH) on February 3. Following rescue, the infant was immediately admitted to the Sick Neonatal Care Unit (SNCU) of the hospital for treatment where she was stated to be critical.
