As a precautionary measure to break the Covid-19 chain, the Indian Railways has decided to restrict the train movements to Puri during the upcoming Rath Yatra festival.
In a tweet, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) on Saturday informed that 26 special trains will up to and originate from Khurda Road instead of Puri.
“To break the chain of Covid19 , it has been decided to restrict trains to Puri during Rath Yatra in month of July,” tweeted ECoR.

"The stretch between Khordha Road and Puri will remain cancelled from both directions. This is to break the chain of Covid-19 infection and in coordination with Odisha government to restrict train services towards Puri during RathYatra in the month of July," the ECoR said.
The ECoR has also decided to partially cancel daily Puri-Angul-Puri Spl train (08427/08428). From June 21 to 25 and June 28 to 30, the train will run between Puri and Talcher and remain cancelled between Talcher and Angul from both directions.
Moreover, the ECoR has decided to cancel some other special trains connecting Puri to contain the spread of the virus.
This year, the annual RathYatra of Lord Jagannath and his siblings will be held in Puri only in the absence of devotees as the Odisha government has banned the festival scheduled to begin on July 12 elsewhere in the State in view of COVID19 pandemic.
