A rape and murder convict prisoner escaped from Baliguda Sub-Jail in Kandhamal district by cutting the grill on Monday.
The prisoner has been identified as Tukuna Mali from Kumbharigaon village under Brahmanigaon police station.
As per reports, Tukuna was in imprisonment in the sub-jail under high security. However, he managed to escape by cutting the grills of a window last night. The jail authorities came to know about the incident much later when Tukuna was found absent while taking the attendance.
Subsequently, the jail authorities lodged a complaint in this regard in Baliguda police station. Baliguda police reached the spot immediately and launched an inquiry into the incident. A special team has been formed and raids are being conducted at various places to nab the prisoner.
Meanwhile, question mark has been raised over security arrangement in the sub-jail following the incident.
“How did the prisoner manage to escape under such high security and from where did he manage to get a cutter to cut the grills still remains an enigma,” said a villager.
However, the jail authorities are clueless on how did the prisoner manage flee from the jail.
