The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Thursday directed the Director General of Police (DGP), Odisha, Abhay to submit the action taken report (ATR) in connection with Jajpur minor girl, Pihu, missing case.
According to sources, the NHRC has asked the DGP to submit the ATR within four weeks.
The directive from the NHRC came after the parents of the missing girl approached the statutory public body expressing dissatisfaction over the progress of the probe.

Notably, two-year-old girl ‘Pihu’ had gone missing from her village Madhusudanpur under Binjharpur police limit in Jajpur district on August 9, last year. Though her mother lodged a missing complaint with the local police on August 14, they are yet to make any headway in the case though one year has passed.
Even though the parents of the missing girl had approached the SP, CM Naveen Patnaik and Governor Ganeshi Lal alleging police laxity in tracing her baby girl, the investigating team is yet to get any clue in the mysterious disappearance of the child.
Moreover, the hapless parents had also staged a dharna in front of the Women and Child Development Minister Tukuni Sahu’s residence in January and demanded government action in the case.
Earlier on February 14, the Jajpur Police had put up posters at different locations and announced Rs 20,000 cash reward for information on the missing two-year-old girl but it yielded no results.
The police action came after the girl’s mother threatened to sit on a dharna in front of the Odisha Assembly from February 25. Pihu’s mother was also picked up by the police in Cuttack while she was on her way to Bhubaneswar on February 24 to sit on the announced dharna.
