Resentment is now brewing among people over the steep rise in the prices of petrol and diesel for the past couple of days. On Saturday, petrol and diesel prices were increased by 86 paisa and 85 paisa per litre, respectively.
The rates of petrol and diesel have been increased across the country and vary from state to state. This is the 10th increase in prices since the ending of a four-and-half-month long hiatus in rate revision on March 22.
In Bhubaneswar, petrol prices is now sold at 109.68 per litre and diesel is now available at Rs 99.38/ litre. It is pertinent to mention here that petrol prices have gone up Rs 7.90/ litre in Odisha.
In Rourkela, petrol now costs Rs 110.60 per litre while the prices of diesel has crossed Rs 100 per litre. “It is really problematic as we have to incur more expenses towards fuel which is a necessity. We have to fill petrol/diesel to carry our day to day activities,” said a Rourkela resident.
A staff at the petrol filling station in Rourkela said, “Though customers are not saying us anything, they are expressing resentment over the price hike of fuel prices as it is also attributing towards price rise of other essential commodities.”
Another resident while expressing his resentment over fuel price rise said, “We have no option as it is the decision of the government both at the Centre and the State government in view of the global situation. We hope that some steps will be taken to provide relief to the common man.”
