Over 19 lakh people have been affected while one person died in Balasore district due to the Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Yaas that made landfall near Bahanaga coast between north of Dhamara and south of Balasore on May 26.
The Balasore district administration submitted a damage assessment report in this regard to the Odisha Government on Wednesday.
To be exact, as many as 19,23,699 living in 2,722 villages in the 12 blocks of the district have been affected by the cyclone, reveals the report.

Around 219 lakh hectares of cropped areas, the value of which has been estimate at Rs 30.915 lakh, in the district have been damaged by Cyclone Yaas.
Similarly, around 4,809 houses were damaged in the cyclone. Out of the damaged houses, 40 kutcha houses were fully damaged, six suffered severe damages while 4,650 houses (both kutcha and pucca) were party damaged, while 113 huts were also damaged in Cyclone Yaas. The value of the damage caused to the houses have been pegged at Rs 1,97,83,900, said the damage assessment report.
As per the report, three big animals, 10 small animals and 24,542 poultry birds perished in the Cyclone.
Earlier on May 26, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had announced to provide seven days' relief materials to people in 128 villages which have been severely hit by the natural calamity.
Residents in the affected 128 villages were provided cooked food or cooking materials and dry food for seven days.
On May 28, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted an aerial survey of the cyclone-hit areas of the State and announced Rs 500 crore financial assistance for immediate relief activities.
PM Modi had also appreciated the preparedness and disaster management activities by the Odisha Government which has resulted in minimal loss of lives. He also noted that the State has embarked on long term mitigation efforts for dealing with such natural disasters.
