A day after OTV aired the sorry state of a Boys’ High School at Binika in Sonepur district, the district administration woke up from its slumber and made students attend lectures in a smart classroom.
Though the state government claims to have spent a huge chunk of money under its 5T initiative to bring ‘smartness’ into government-run schools, such initiatives have failed to yield desired results. This Boys’ High School is a case in point.
The school was taken under 5T purview and a workshop has been constructed at a cost of Rs 45 lakh recently. However, the condition in which the students are forced to study puts a huge question mark on the actual implementation on the initiative.
After OTV aired the news, the district administration did the needful for the students who fall prey to government apathy.
Amit Meher, a student said, “Earlier, we were made to sit in the floor and taught in the absence of a blackboard. After OTV aired the news we have been brought to smart classroom. We will be taught in smart board also.”
Sai Priyanshu Kar, another student, said, “There is a huge difference between yesterday and today when it comes to classroom teaching. Yesterday we were taught in messy classrooms. Thanks to OTV, we got a new smart classroom.”
High School headmaster Nilanchal Meher said, “Yesterday classroom of Class 9 students was being repaired for which the students were taught in a separate classroom. I was unaware of the fact that there was no blackboard and the almirah was being used as blackboard. We sorted out everything today. Now, students are being taught in smart classrooms.”
