The Odisha Staff Selection Commission (OSSC) on Monday asserted that there is no link of the recruitment examinations and selection of candidates conducted by it with the recent arrest of one of its employees by the vigilance in a Disproportionate Assets case.
Informing that Biranchi Narayan Sahoo, personal secretary to a member of the Commission, has been suspended from service, OSSC chairman Nirmal Chandra Mishra said his arrest has nothing to do with the recruitment examinations.
Mishra's statement came amid raging questions over the transparency in the recruitment examinations following the arrest of the PS.

“If any official is under detention for eight hours, he/she is deemed to have been suspended,” Mishra said and added that the commission has recommended the State government to take stringent action against Sahoo.
“In order to clear the doubts rising in the minds of people, I would like to tell that we have adopted a transparent system of recruitment. It is not right to blame the whole system on the basis of a mistake committed by one person,” the OSSC chief said.
He mentioned that reformations have been brought in the examination in accordance with the 5T initiative of the State government. “The recruitment examinations are being conducted through online mode and human interface is almost negligible. Where there is human interface, it is minimal and officers with high integrity look after it,” he said.
“There is no scope of tampering in the way we are conducting the examinations. The investigation into the DA case of the arrested employee will reveal his sources of income. If any aspirant had approached him, that also needed to be investigated,” he said.
“If anyone from our office or outside makes such assurance of providing jobs, please do not believe in them. Because, those who have secured jobs have done so on the basis of merit and nothing else,” the OSSC chairman added.
