In a major relief to the uncertainity looming over the elections to 150 year old Kendrapara Municipality, Orissa High Court has removed a legal hurdle against the conduct of the urbal local body polls.
As per reports, a former Councillor Muktar Khan had filed a case in the High Court in 2016 challenging the 64 per cent reservation policy. However, with the State cabinet recently approving the existing 50 per cent reservation policy to continue, Khan requested the Court to withdraw the case. The development has not only paved ways for elections to all urban local bodies across the State at a single time but also prompted preparations from the political rivals.

Major political parties in the state are excited over the development and have already begun spadework to give tough fights to the opposition in the forthcoming election.
“The dark clouds over the conduct of the Municipal election have been removed after the withdrawal of a case over reservation policy. The ruling party had made a conspiracy against us but this time we are sure to give them a taste of their own medicine,” said Dilip Das, Kendrapara BJP president.
Meanwhile, the BJD is also encouraged about the conduct of the election on time.
“Some political leaders were dissatisfied about the reservation and delimitation terms in Kendrapara. Now that the legal hurdle has been cleared after the withdrawal of the case, we are confident about our party’s good show in the upcoming Municipal election,” said Rajesh Das, President of Kendrapara Youth BJD.
