Members of the Orissa High Court Bar Association staged a peaceful dharna on Monday demanding the transfer of the incumbent Chief Justice of Orissa High Court S. Muralidhar, alleging that his conduct smacks of 'anti-lawyer'.
The lawyers alleged that the CJ has turned a deaf ear to the demands the Association has been making since months.
From parking issues to the Bar Association’s infrastructure, no steps have been taken by the Chief Justice to alleviate the grievances of the lawyers, they alleged.
The protesters alleged that the Chief Justice is in no mood to give any leeway to implement the changed rule made in connection to the gowns the lawyers have been wearing.
They have submitted a memorandum to the Chief Justice of India containing all their demands. “The agitation will be intensified if no concrete steps were taken to address our grievances as soon as possible,” said a protester.
Speaking to reporters, Jagabandhu Sahu, President of the High Court Bar Association said, “Though all the demands were passed by the Executive Committee and the General Body, no action has been taken so far, which is very unfortunate. It seems the Chief Justice is deliberately ignoring our demands, that is why we are forced to protest.”
