Three of the five passengers killed in the train tragedy in Andhra Pradesh were from Odisha and Assam, informed Railway sources. Of the three deceased, one has been identified as a resident of Bhanjanagar area in Odisha's Ganjam district.

At least 5 persons were killed after being run over by Konark Express near Batuva in Srikakulam district Monday night. The incident took place when a few passengers in the Secunderabad-Guwahati express reportedly pulled the chain and tried to cross over the other track.

They came under the Konark Express coming from the opposite direction on the adjacent track. While five passengers died on the spot, one critically injured was carried in the same train to Srikakulam Road station and an ambulance was arranged by the railway authorities to shift to hospital.

"Even after repeated advisories and alerts by the railway authorities, people commit mistakes. "Accident Relief Medical Train ordered from Visakhapatnam to spot. DRM, ADRM (OP) and other officials are monitoring the situation," he added.
