In order to achieve large scale adoption of electric vehicles in Odisha and to maximize reduction of vehicular pollution, the State government has announced incentives on the purchase and use of the vehicles in the segment of two wheelers, public or shared vehicles and goods carriers.
According to the Electric Vehicle Policy 2021, which was approved by State Cabinet on Friday, the State government will provide 15 percent subsidies on each purchase of electronic vehicles. While subsidy of Rs 5,000 will be provided on the purchase of two wheelers, subsidy of Rs 10,000 will be provided in case of three wheelers. Similarly, subsidy of Rs 50,000 will be provided on purchase of four wheelers.
In case of the purchase of electric buses, the government will provide a subsidy up to Rs 4 lakh.

“In order to reduce the rapid global temperature, it is now necessary to reduce the emissions caused by different categories of vehicles plying on the road using the traditional fossil fuels since they contribute a lot for the climate change. It is high time to reduce such emissions by reducing the use of traditional fuel and accelerate the pace of adoption of electric vehicles. The State Cabinet has approved the Electric Vehicle Policy 2021 to fulfil the purpose,” said State Transport Minister Padmanabha Behera.
“The objective of the policy is to achieve the adoption of 20% battery electric vehicles in all vehicle registrations by 2025. State government has announced incentives like subsidies and cut in registration fees and other taxes to achieve the target and encourage people to purchase electric vehicles,” said Behera.
