All schools in Jagatsinghpur district will remain closed till August 17 (tomorrow) in view of flood situation in Mahanadi river basin.
Jagatsinghpur Collector in a letter to all block education officers in the district has directed to close the schools where there is possibility of inundation of floodwater.
The officials have been asked to ensure safe custody of valuable assets, electronic and electric equipment, records of schools, MDM stocks and other assets raised under High School Transformation and Mo School Abhiyan immediately.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has directed the Collectors of all districts to maintain extreme vigilance on all aspects to ensure zero casualty. Patnaik directs authorities to minimize road communication disruption, evacuate people from vulnerable areas and execute relief and rescue process.
Widespread swathes of land in Jagatsinghpur district have been inundated due to flood in Mahanadi basin wreaking havoc for people after over a week of torrential rainfall.
At some places, breach and minor cleaves in river embankments have also been reported.
In a similar development, as many as 32 schools in Nayagarh district will also remain closed for today and tomorrow in view of the flood situation.
According to order of the district administration, 11 schools in Gania, 2 in Khandapada and 12 schools in Bhapur will remain closed. Even though teaching in classes will remain suspended, teachers have been asked to remain present in the schools.
