Odisha drops to 16th position in NITI Aayog’s India Innovation Index Ranking 

Odisha dropped to 16th position in the third edition of the India Innovation Index, released by NITI Aayog on Thursday. The state had secured 12th position in the first edition of the index launched in October 2019 and 14th position in the second edition, 2020. 

At least 17 states are being ranked in the innovation index based on their innovation capabilities and performance. Out of 17 states, Odisha ranks at the 16th position.

Reports said, the ranking is being done to promote competitive federalism among all states and Union Territories to catalyze the innovation outcome of the nation. 

States like Maharashtra, Telangana, Kerala, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Punjab and Haryana have performed better than Odisha in the innovation rankings. Odisha scored 11.42 points to stand at the 16th place. 

The NITI Aayog index 2020 showed that Karnataka continued to be the top ranking major State in innovation. 

The India Innovation Index 2020 ranks the states and union territories based on their relative performance of supporting innovation and aims to empower them to improve their innovation policies by highlighting their strengths and weaknesses.
