Malkangiri: Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Abhay on Saturday appealed to the Left Wing Extremists (LWE), who have infected with Covid-19, to surrender before police for early treatment.
The DGP assured them of all necessary medical assistance with empathy and compensation as per government protocols.
During his visit to various Maoists-affected regions in Malkangiri, Koraput and Nabarangpur districts, the top police officer said that government would bear the cost of treatment of the infected rebels if they surrender at the earliest.

The DGP, who was accompanied by Director of Intelligence RP Sharma, local Superintendent of Police (SP) and senior BSF officials, visited Motu, MV 88, Kaleru bridge in Malkangiri district and reviewed the anti-naxal operations in the regions.
He inaugurated a newly set up police outpost at MV-88 before heading towards Motu check point on Odisha-Andhra border for reviewing Covid-19 enforcement drive.
He also discussed with the officials on duty on the border check points regarding enforcement of Covid guidelines for the migrants who are coming to Odisha from Andhra and Telangana.
Notably, Odisha government has made 14-day mandatory quarantine for those who are coming to the State from Andhra and Telangana following detection of virulent variant of the virus in the neighbouring states.
Earlier in the day, the DGP visited Koraput district and discussed with the local SP on the Covid-19 situation and anti-Maoist operations.
According to reports, Abhay sought cooperation from public to curb the Maoist menace which has posed a serious challenge before the security forces in taking up welfare activities in the region.
The DGP also stressed on setting up of more camps for security forces to expedite the operations against the rebels.
Later in the day, he also visited Nabarangpur district and directed the police officials to enforce the lockdown protocols laid down by the State government to break the chain of Coronavirus which is on a steady rise in the State.
