The Nandankanan Zoo in Bhubaneswar has been temporarily closed for the visitors on Wednesday after two elephants barged into the zoological park by trampling the fence near Daruthenga.
As per reports, as many as two tuskers entered the zoo premises on Tuesday night by breaking open the enclosure near Daruthenga. Latest reports suggest that the elephants are currently roaming inside the zoo.
Anticipating any untoward incidents, the management authorities of the park have decided to close the zoo for a temporary period of time to ensure safety and security of visitors and animals inside the enclosure.
Several posters have been put up at different places in and around the park to make the tourists and visitors aware about the development.
Meanwhile, many visitors from different parts of the State have been seen returning away due to the closure of the zoo.
“The zoo will be closed today for the safety and security of visitors and animals. The mission to drive out the pachyderms during day time has been put on hold as there is a chance that the wild animals may feel provoked and in the process damage the fence and enclosures inside the zoo,” said ACF Sarat Chandra Behera.
“We have formed two teams to keep a close vigil on the movement of the tuskers. The teams will start their mission to drive away the animals in the evening again. Hopefully, we will be able to successfully execute the operation at night,” said Behera.
