A day after Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar addressed a public gathering in Nabarangpur of Odisha, a video of two people in the southern district purifying the places visited by the former JNU students’ union leader went viral on the social media platforms on Tuesday.
Gourishankar Sahu, who called himself a Sachetan Nagarik (aware citizen), termed Kanhaiya Kumar a traitor.
Alleging Kanhaiya’s involvement in anti-national activities when he was a student at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Sahu said his presence in the meeting has polluted the soil of Nabarangpur.
“Kanhaiya Kumar was indulged in anti-national activities and shouted anti-national slogans at JNU. He has desecrated the soil of Nabrangpur by setting his foot here. In order to purify the roads where he walked and addressed the meeting, I sprinkled Gangajal,” Sahu said justifying his act.
“Congress party members should not take offence to our action. We did it just because an anti-national came and desecrated the soil of Nabaranpur. Therefore, we as responsible citizens sprinkled Gangajal to purify the soil,” said Mihir Ranjan Mishra, another person.
On Monday, Kanhaiya Kumar addressed the public at Sankalp Samabesh in Nabarangpur where he launched a scathing attack on Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik alleging that the State is being ruled the latter’s friend.
“BJD is the D-team of BJP. Here elected representatives don’t run the government. CM Naveen’s friend is ruling the State,” Kanhaiya said.
He also made light of the CM’s grip on Odia language and said “I am better than your CM, as I can understand a little bit of Odia.”
