A bus ferrying groomsmen was slapped with a fine of Rs 3.70 lakh for violating various rules under the amended Motor Vehicles (MV) Act in Sundergarh district.
As per reports, the bus from Odisha was returning to Bonai with baraatis after a marriage function in Jharkhand when a team of Sundergarh Transport office led by Inspector Jitendra Kumar Murmu intercepted the vehicle during a routine inspection near Karimdiha last night.
Senior officials said that the bus had violated several road safety norms including air and noise pollution regulations. As per the challan levied by the Transport officials, the tax of the vehicle had expired in 2021 and it was operating without valid permit, fitness certificate and pollution under control certificate (PUCC).
Earlier on Thursday, the State Transport department had slapped a whopping penalty of over Rs 2.33 lakh on a school bus for flouting several motor vehicles protocols. The officials of Regional Transport Office-II in Bhubaneswar had seized the bus during an inspection drive near Damana square in the city.
The crackdown was launched as part of a special drive by the Odisha government for extensive checking of buses and other light vehicles used for carrying school students. The special drive will continue till April 27
