As many as six students of a residential Sanskrit school at Chitalo area in Jajpur district were rescued from near Biraja temple after they reportedly fled hostel due to spread of skin infection on Sunday.
According to sources, some locals rescued the students and handed them over to the local child protection unit.
“Our sir told us to go to home as we are suffering from skin infection. We were planning to leave home by bus but it did not come today,” said a student, Akash Munda.
"Though we told sir on Saturday about it, he told us to leave hostel as we are infected," he added.
“All the rescued students belong to 11-12 years age group and hail from Keonjhar. The students walked all the way to reach Biraja temple and wanted to go to their homes. They have been rescued and necessary steps will be taken to send them to their homes,” said Mihir Jena, member of Jajpur child protection unit.
Reacting on the development, Manoranjan Pradhan, head master of the school said the students were asked to go to their homes as skin disease is infectious.
“As skin infection is transmissible, we had a discussion with the parents of the students. Moreover, we had asked the guardians to take them home. We have provided necessary treatment to the students,” Pradhan added.
