In what can be termed as a jolt to Dr Sumit Sahu from Brahmanagar in Berhampur, the Orissa High Court on Wednesday upheld a lower court's decision ordering him to pay maintenance of Rs 17000 to his estranged wife Tapaswini by the 10th of every month.
Sumit, on January 11, 2022 had knocked the Orissa High Court’s door against an order earlier passed by a District court in Berhampur.
The District court had ordered that Tapaswini Dash will live in Sumit’s paternal house in Bramahnagar in Berhampur. The court had also directed Sumit to pay Rs 17,000 every month as maintenance to Tapaswini.
The public spectre of Tapaswini Dash trying hard to save her marriage with Sumit has been hitting headlines across Odisha for over the last three month. On November 22, 26-year-old Tapaswini came dressed as a bride and sat outside the house of Sumit in Brahmanagar locality of Berhampur demanding that she be allowed to live in the house with him. Since then, Tapaswini, accompanied by some social activists, has been spending days and nights outside her in-law's house under a tent.
The next hearing in the case has been scheduled on February 15, 2022.
