Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Tuesday arrested a man who was allegedly making fake passes and selling them to people who wanted to move around the city without any hassles during lockdown at throw away price.
The alleged counterfeter live in Damana area under the Chandrasekharpur police limits in the city, where he was carrying out such illegal activities, police said.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of officials from Chandrasekharpur police station carried out raids at the house and caught the accused red handed when he was preparing the passes using logos and graphics of different companies. The police team arrested him and his questioning is on at the police station.
The accused allegedly admitted to have prepared some passes and sold them to people for Rs 50 each. Many such fake passes have also been seized, police said.
He will be produced before a local court today for remand, police sources said.
Notably, police had earlier allowed movement of employees of private organizations on production of Identity card. Later, some violators were found misusing their company I-cards and move around the city without any genuine work.
Later, the police issued emergency passes to the employees of various organization to facilitate hassle-free movement and check misuse of company identity cards.
The police had also launched an e-pass system yesterday to facilitate smooth conduct of some social and cultural activities like, marriage, death rituals and thread ceremonies.
Even as the government has issued instructions to police to enforce the lockdown restrictions strictly to check the mounting trend of Covid-19 cases, some violators are giving open challenge to police administration in the Capital city by flouting the restrictions. This has also posed serious threats to public health and safety.
