Gobinda Sahu, the prime accused in the murder of Kalahandi lady teacher Mamita Meher, will continue to remain in jail as a local court has turned down his bail plea again.
The court of the additional district and sessions judge, Kantabanji heard the bail petition on Tuesday and after hearing the arguments of both parties refused to release the accused on bail. Sahu is currently lodged in Kantabanji sub-jail.
Public prosecutor Pramod Panigrahi said, “After hearing the arguments of both the parties, the Additional district and sessions judge has rejected the bail petition of Gobinda Sahu. The police submitted up to date case diary in sealed cover before the court during the hearing.”
According to sources, the court did not entertain the bail application on ground that the investigation of the case is presently at the initial stage. It observed that the accused had earlier fled the police custody and may escape again if released on bail.
The court also observed that he is an influential person. He may influence the investigation and intimidate the witnesses if bail is granted to him.
Mohanlal Sharma, the counsel of the accused said, “I will go through the details order of the court and consult with my client. Accordingly, we will decide our next move.”
Sahu, the chairman of Sunshine English Medium School managing committee at Mahaling was arrested during mid October for allegedly murdering Mamita, a working teacher at the school. Earlier, his bail petition was rejected by Bangomunda judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) court.
