The Mamita Meher murder probe is everything but fair, said former Odisha top cop Prakash Mishra during an intellectual congregation organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) here in Smart City Bhubaneswar on Thursday.
Speaking about the probe, Mishra, a former Odisha DGP, said, “The way this investigation has been conducted, it is clear that the Police are under tremendous pressure, most likely political pressure. The credibility of the investigating agency is at stake here. If people want to hand over the probe to an independent agency, then the government should not have any problems at all.”
“If Minister Dibya Shankar Mishra had visited Mahaling multiple times, then he should be brought under the ambit of the probe. But by making him share the same dias with Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik recently has rendered the Police almost incapable of booking him,” alleged Mishra who is a senior State BJP leader.
Similarly, senior lawyer and BJP leader Pitambar Acharya said, “Not only intellectuals but the common man has also started to notice the glaring lapses in the Mamita murder probe. But our Chief Minister seems to be unfazed by any of this.”
Taking the protests a notch higher, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised the congregation of intellectuals in the State capital with a view to spread their agitations seeking justice for slain Kalahandi school teacher Mamita Meher and ouster of MoS (Home) Dibya Shankar Mishra.
The BJP had invited intellectuals from almost all walks of the society including doctors, lawyers, journalists, academicians, writers and former police officers to the gathering.
