A 108 ambulance driver in Phulbani, the headquarter town of Kandhamal district, is receiving appreciations and accolades from all sections of the society these days.
Sunil Kumar Sahu, the ambulance driver, on Saturday returned a bag containing some important documents like land records, an ATM card and Rs 6,000 cash belonging to an elderly patient whom he had carried in his ambulance to a hospital.
The honesty of Sahu has become the talk of the town.
“On Wednesday I received a call on my mobile phone to shift a patient from Hatapada to hospital. When I reached the spot, I found a person lying on the ground unconscious. I also found a bag lying near him. Without wasting time, I took the man to the hospital and kept his bag in safe custody,” said Sahu.
As soon as the patient got discharged from the hospital, Sahu found him and returned the bag to him. “I collected Kudei’s address and handed the bag over to him,” Sahu said.
Kudei was overwhelmed by Sahu’s integrity and heaped praise on the ambulance driver. He said, “I was worried after losing the bag as I had kept Rs 6,000 cash apart from several important documents like land patta and an ATM card. Words will fall short to explain my gratitude towards Sahu.”
The amount of money may be small, but for Kudei it worth a lot given his impoverished background. Nevertheless, it was the hard earned money of the poor man.
