In a significant move on the eve of the New Year, the Odisha Transport Department has decided to go completely online from January 1, 2022.
The State Commerce and Transport Minister, Padmanabha Behera on Friday informed that the Odisha Transport Department will dispense all its services like issuance of Driving License (DL) and other vehicle-related documents through online mode from the New Year. As a result, people will no longer have to visit the RTO offices for availing any service.
Earlier, there were widespread complaints that manual system in RTO was leading to corruption at the official level and interference of middle men or agents. The decision of going completely online was taken by the Commerce and Transport Department of the Government of Odisha in a bid to infuse more transparency in the process, said Minister Behera.
“At present, the operations at RTOs are offline, but as per the new rule, from tomorrow every service at RTO including allotting driving licenses, vehicle permit and registration certificates will be available on online mode only. In this way middle men will cease to have any interference as people can avail every service online directly by themselves. Therefore, the online service delivery system is has been adopted keeping in view public benefit.” added the Minister.
