Food safety regulator, FSSAI has launched an awareness drive against the sale of adulterated edible oil on Monday and the drive will last till August 14.
FSSAI, at a press meet, informed media that it has decided to ban adulterated mineral oil, argemone oil, castor oil and trans fatty acid oil. In the first phase, 126 samples of edible oil will be sent for test to oil testing laboratory.
FSSAI would take the necessary action if the presence of adulterants is confirmed in vegetable oil refineries, oil blending units and other production units involved in the production of edible oils.
The food safety regulator has intensified the crackdown against the sale of adulterated edible oil (both branded and unbranded) across India.
It is learnt the number of heart patients is rising due to consumption of adulterated edible oil. The regulator would collect oil samples from oil manufacturing companies including big and small and send them for test. If adulteration will be found, oil manufacturing companies may have to down their shutters. FSSAI has taken these decisions in order to create awareness among consumers.
When corona broke out, FSSI had got evidence of selling adulterating oil by eight companies. But action was not taken against those farms due to corona.
