The formative assessment examination of students was cancelled at Hemendranath High School in Kashimpur panchayat under Dhamnagar block of Bhadrak district on Wednesday due to flood.
As per sources, the school was badly affected by the flood situation and the entire premises were submerged. The school is reportedly situated at the confluence of Reb and Kapali rivers. Though the Baitarani river is flowing below the danger mark, the flood water has inundated the low-lying areas.
Some students reached the school today morning wading through knee-deep water but could not appear for the examination as the school premises was inundated.
A student, Subhankar Pati, said, “We reached the school at 7am to appear in the examination. But we found that our classrooms have been flooded. The road connecting the school also submerged. Snakes, frogs and other respites were seen in the classrooms. We rushed out of the premises out of fear.”
“How we will conduct the examination in knee-deep water. Soon after children reached the school, their guardians reached and refused to allow them inside the school due to fear of snakes and flogs. As the desks have submerged, how students will write the examination,” said Sanjay Kumar Senapati.
On the other hand, the flood situation is grim in Kendrapara district. Houses, roads and farmland remained submerged. Nankar hospital in Marsaghai area remained in knee-deep water, affecting the healthcare services.
