A man and his son were rescued by an Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) team after they got trapped in the flood water of Mahanandi river in Cuttack district.
They were stranded on a river island named ‘Amangeikuda’ near Kandarpur under Athagarh block.
As per reports, the father-son duo had gone to tend goats five days earlier. However, they were stranded on the island due to sudden rush of flood water which engulfed the area.
They were not able to communicate with anybody as the cell phone they had carried had lost all it's charge.
After coming to know about their whereabouts, a five member ODRAF team rushed to the site with a boat and launched an operation to rescue the duo.
A health check-up of the man and his son was conducted following the rescue operation.
“We got a new lease of life after being rescued. We had run out of food and were hungry. Somehow, we managed to hang on,” said the father.
As per the ODRAF team, it was a very challenging operation.
“The propeller of the boat was not working properly due to the swift current of water. However, we were determined to rescue the father-son duo and were successful at last,” said a rescuer.
