After 75 years of India’s independence, Dungurisaghi village under Mayurbhanj’s Kusumi block lit up for the very first time as the Odisha government electrified the village on Monday.
Notably, NDA’s Presidential candidate, Draupadi Murmu hails from the same village. After the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced her name as its candidate for next President of India, OTV aired the sorry condition of her village in tribal dominated Mayurbhanj district on Saturday. Following the news, the district administration went on an overdrive and begun electrification of her village on a war footing.
As per reports, the local administration had installed 20 electric poles on Sunday and 18 on Monday completing the whole process in just two days which could not be done in 75 years.
Murmu's native village Dungurisahi of Uparbeda under Kusum block is located at a distance of 20kms from Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj district. The villagers are extremely proud as one among them will probably soon get decorated with the country's most prestigious position. However, despite feeling proud, the villagers had expressed displeasure as their village was yet to get an electricity connection.
Murmu’s sister-in-law, Chudamani Tudu said, “We had to light wicker lamps every evening to do our chores. Children had to close their studies after sunset. I am happy that we have electricity supply now.”
“I thank OTV for highlighting the issue after which the administration woke from the slumber and electrified our village,” Tudu said.
An Uparabeda local, Dhanamani Baske said, “We are very happy that our village got electricity supply today. I think, it was made possible after Draupadi Murmu was nominated for the presidential candidate.”
Pertinent to mention here that the election for the President of India will be held on July 18 and the counting will take place in New Delhi on July 21. Worth mentioning that the tenure of the current President of India Ram Nath Kovind is coming to an end on July 24.
