After the ongoing winter session of the Odisha Assembly witnessed a series of stormy scenes over the Mamita Meher murder case, Minister of State for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra, who finds himself in the eye of a storm over his alleged links with prime accused Gobinda Sahu, made his statement over the sensational case in the House on Monday.
Responding to the questions raised by BJP MLA Mohan Majhi, Mishra in a written reply said, “The case is sub-judice. On Odisha govt's request, the High Court has nominated former district judge, ABS Naidu, to monitor the investigation into the case.”
Opposition chief whip Majhi had posed few questions at Mishra in connection the murder case and sought his reply in the House.
Majhi asked the Minister to name the VIPs and their motive to visit the Mahaling college a month prior to the murder. Moreover, the saffron party leader asked the Minister to name the persons who spent night at the college and their links with the murder and the sex scandal.
Meanwhile, the Kantabanji ADJ Court on Monday deferred hearing on the bail plea of Gobinda Sahu- the prime accused in the murder case that triggered State-wide protests demanding the ouster of Minister Mishra.
However, the Court has not given any notice regarding the next date of hearing.
“The matter could not be heard, as the Court was unsure about the jurisdiction,” said Mohanlal Sharma, accused Gobinda Sahu’s lawyer.
Earlier, Sahu had applied for bail in the Bangomunda judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) court. However, the court had turned down his bail request.
Sahu was arrested on October 19 in connection with the murder of Mamita Meher, a teacher in Sunshine Public School in Mahaling.
