Amidst India Meteorological Department’s (IMD’s) forecast for heavy to very heavy rainfall under the influence of the deep depression, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday made a special appeal to the residents of four districts.
In a video message, Patnaik said, “As per IMD forecast, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Bhadrak tonight. I appeal to people not to panic rather follow the instruction of the administration.”
According to Patanik, ‘every life is precious’ for the Odisha government and hence everybody should stay stafe and ensure safety of family members as well.
The Bhadrak district administration has ordered closure of all schools and anganwadi centres today in view of the heavy rainfall forecast.
It is pertinent to mention here that though IMD had ruled out any cyclone probability, the premier weather agency said the deep depression would cross between Balasore and Sagar Islands by today evening.
Under the influence of the system, four districts- Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Balasore and Mayurbhanj are likely to experience heavy rainfall activities. The IMD has issued ‘red warning’ for these districts.
As per IMD, Squally wind speed reaching 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph is likely to prevail from noon till midnight of today over North Bay of Bengal and along & off Odisha coast. The wind speed will gradually decrease becoming 45-55 kmph gusting 65 kmph by tomorrow morning over the same region and 35-45 kmph gusting 55 kmph by evening tomorrow.
