While mystery shrouds over the death of Dibyaranjan Mishra, a bank agriculture officer whose body was recovered from Anga river at Julunda in Subarnapur district, police said it will launch the probe taking the cyber fraud angle into consideration after several transactions worth lakh of rupees from the banker's account came to fore.
From the preliminary investigation it is found to be a case of suicide, sources in the police said, adding that Mishra has transferred over Rs 25 lakh to different people belonging to Rajasthan and West Bengal through UPI payment gateways in the last two months.
Though the exact reason behind his death is yet to be ascertained, it is believed that Mishra might have fallen into the traps of cyber fraudsters and took the extreme step after losing more than Rs 25 lakh following blackmails from the cybercriminals.
Meanwhile, police have recovered the mobile phone of MIshra and expected to find a clue about the cause of his death out of it.
“We have recovered the mobile phone of Mishra in an inactive condition and I hope this will give us clue about his death. If required, we will send the mobile to forensic department for further examination to retrieve data,” Subarnapur SP Asim Panda said.
Meanwhile, the family member of Mishra has levelled murder allegation suspecting that their son was forced to commit suicide. Besides, they have also demanded a CBI probe into the matter.
“I think a racket is involved in the death of my son. We still cannot believe that he has committed suicide. A CBI investigation should be launched into the mysterious death of my son,” demanded Kesab Mishra, father of Dibyaranjan.
“Someone has beaten my son to death and later threw his body. A proper investigation into the matter is required and stringent action should be taken against those who are involved in the case,” said Srikar Mishra, a relative of the deceased.
Notably, Dibyaranjan had gone missing under mysterious circumstances on Wednesday and his body was recovered from Anga river at Julunda in Subarnapur district on Saturday.
He was working as an agriculture officer with the Punjab National Bank’s Barpali branch.
