Commissionerate Police To Have Special Crime Investigation Unit; CM Approves 3 New Police Stations

 In a bid to address the problems arising out of organised crime in the Twin Cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, the Odisha Government has decided to set up a dedicated special crime investigation unit which will function under the Commissionerate Police.

Sources said that the unit will play a crucial role in investigation of organised and other complex crimes and criminal networks. The announcement was made by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday.

Earlier, a proposal for setting up the special crime unit was moved as part of a long-term strategy to restructure the Commissionerate Police system.

The dedicated crime control unit will be headed by a DCP and it will function with 59 staff including one Additional DCP, 3 ACPs, 9 inspectors, 12 sub-inspectors, 3 assistant sub-inspectors and 30 constables.

Apart from the special crime unit, the Chief Minister has also approved the setting up of three new police stations under the Commissionerate Police jurisdictions.

The creation of new police stations was needed in view of the rapid urbanisation and growth of population in areas under the Commissionerate Police. The new police stations will come up at Pahala, Infovalley, 42 Moua/ Bentkar.

The new police stations will come up by upgrading the existing Pahala outpost (under Balianta PS), Infovalley (under Jatni PS) and Bentkar outpost (under Cuttack Sadar PS).
