College students will once again man different traffic posts in Bhubaneswar from Monday onwards.
Students from different colleges are being trained under DCP Traffic of Bhubaneswar- Cuttack S Sushree, in a 2-day training camp at the Traffic Police Headquarter in Bhubaneswar for the purpose.
As per reports, on the first day of the 2-day training session, as many as 50 students were given on-field training at the AG square of the Capital City on Saturday.
The initiative, which was earlier implemented in the Capital city, came to a halt owing to the pandemic situation back in 2020.
Such initiatives have been taken with the aim to resolve different traffic-related issues in the Capital City.
"We have once again started the Student Traffic Volunteer (STV) programme under which college students over the age of 18-years have been inducted. They are being trained and will be deployed at different traffic posts to help our traffic staff," said the Traffic DCP.
She further said, "The students will help in controlling traffic congestion and ensure free traffic flow. This is not only of help to us, as we are facing manpower shortage, it will also help them in becoming more responsible citizens. They will understand the traffic rules in a better way through hands-on experience. This is welcoming and commuters are more willing to hear from students who are of the age of their children which will make them drive more responsibly," she added.
Informing about the programme, Sushree said, "The students will not be allowed to manage the posts alone as they are not properly trained. In the 2-day workshop, they will learn about the traffic signals, basic traffic rules and gain field experience. Moreover, they will also learn about general courtesy and behaviour towards commuters. They will participate in the programme for 16 days during evening hours at posts in the vicinity of their residence."
