Rahul Sahu, the 11-year-old boy, who had fallen into an 80-ft deep bore well at Pihrid village in Malkharoda block of Janjgir Champa district of Chhattisgarh on Friday afternoon, was rescued late on Tuesday night following an intense operation which lasted for past five days.
A massive operation was launched by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) from Odisha, state disaster response force (SDRF) and the Indian Army jawans. A robotics team from Gujarat was also part of the rescue operation.
Though the rescue teams were nearly 6ft away from Rahul yesterday, they could not pull him out to safety as a rock proved to be an obstacle in their efforts. However, the breakthrough came tonight.
Every effort was taken to ensure safety of the boy as the place was rocky and any mistake would have spelt disaster for the boy. A parallel tunnel was dug after carrying out excavation near the site. Heavy machines including JCBs were used to dig a deep trench near the bore well spot, senior officials said.
Earlier, concerns were expressed after Rahul had not eat any food that was supplied to him since last night.
Soon after his rescue, Rahul was rushed to the hospital. A green corridor was also created by the authorities.
It is pertinent to mention here that Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel spoke with Rahul’s parents and had directed the authorities to take every step to rescue the boy.
